Associate HSES Advisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Overview:

Provide a service to projects and shops to enable the division meet or exceed HSE targets. Work in conjunction with the HSE advisors in applying the most effective HSE plan to project construction and assist on the execution of that plan in accordance with the Corporate and ARE guidelines and operating standards. Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day HSE management on site. Required to maintain a close relationship with designated project line supervision. Assist in the implementation of specific, measurable goals with defined timelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Seek guidance from the HSE Advisor/ HSE Manager as appropriate before making critical and important decisions
  • Provide HSE leadership to field personnel, set standards of behaviour
  • Have a working knowledge of Statutory HSE Regulations, industry HSE standards and ensure their correct implementation
  • Ensure company HSE policies and procedures are implemented consistently and effectively, and are known and understood by all employees.
  • Conduct effective employee HSE inductions in the language appropriate for employees.
  • Regularly inspect the work areas to identify unsafe acts and conditions and advise line-management of those that cannot be immediately be corrected.
  • Assist with accident / incident investigations and compilation of complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist supervisors with the implementation and induction HSE training to all levels of employees and subcontractors as required.
  • Monitor the system of maintenance and inspection of life saving and fire fighting equipment.
  • Assist with medical evacuations (medivacs) and respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Ensure HSE communications received from HSE Manager, HSE Advisors, Division Manager etc., such as statistics, safety grams, etc. are brought to the attention of all employees via the posting of such information on HSE Notice boards and discussion at HSE meetings
  • Observe work groups and intervene and advise workers if found committing unsafe acts. Keep supervisors advised of such acts.
  • Observe work groups for compliance to JRM Safe Work Procedures.
  • Observe condition of plant (cranes, forklifts, etc.), report deficiencies to relevant Supervisor.
  • Observe / assist supervision during the delivery of Toolbox Talks.
  • Attend training and HSE meetings as and when requested.
  • Inspect work areas for unsafe conditions and advise persons responsible for area.
  • Be open and honest.
  • Keep HSE management appraised of all important items in a timely manner.
  • Be a team player and clearly understand your role as a member of the team
  • Be open to change and lead by example
  • Think before acting – don’t be too quick to answer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • ICSM (after 1 year qualifying period as trainee)
  • 3 years in construction industry
  • 2 years as BBSM Observer
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good Interpersonal skills
