Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in Surgery

Job Description

The College of Medicine, Ajman University, has an opening for the position of Assistant / Associate Professor in General Surgery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality, student-centered courses in the discipline of general surgery and subspecialties, aligned with the College’s integrated curriculum.
  • Participate in undergraduate clinical teaching, including bedside instruction, clinical skills sessions, and operating room mentorship.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, mapping, and integration across basic and clinical sciences.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals relevant to surgical education, clinical practice, or translational science.
  • Support student assessment and evaluation, including OSCEs, MCQs, and structured clinical assessments.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate medical students.
  • Collaborate with affiliated hospitals to coordinate and supervise clinical training.
  • Contribute to university service through committee work, community engagement, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in accreditation and program evaluation efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Head of Department.

Job Requirements:

  • Basic medical degree (MBBS/MD).
  • Certification by a recognized surgical board such as FRCS, the American Board of Surgery, or the Arab Board.
  • A postgraduate academic degree in a relevant surgical field, such as a Master’s (MSc) or a Doctorate (PhD/MD by research).
  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching medical students and/or supervising postgraduate trainees is highly desirable.
  • Research and Scholarly Activity: A record of scholarly research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals, with ongoing engagement in surgical research.
  • Previous experience teaching in an integrated systems-based curriculum will be highly desirable.
  • Have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction, dedication to continued professional development and scholarship, and a broad-based knowledge of physiological sciences.
  • Have a strong commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required.
  • Advanced use of technology in the education process (delivering classes via presentations, using e-learning systems, reports, etc.).

  • Engaging in scholarly work that is of very high quality as evidenced by external peer review.

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple diverse communities.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
