Coating Inspector

Purpose
Perform all activities necessary for a QC Coating Supervisor, Inspection & Insulation
Painting Supervisor is responsible to ensure all the Protective Coatings that are applied to UZAI Assets are
executed and tested as specified in ADNOC OFFSHORE Painting Specification.
Inspection of painting, fireproofing and insulation (Cold, Hot & Acoustic insulation) activities all over UZAI’s as
per ADNOC OFFSHORE standard.
Key Accountabilities
- Inspect the painting work carried out by the Maintenance Painting contractor to ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with ADNOC OFFSHORE painting specification, required standards and quality.
- Ensure that the contractor carries out all work while complying with company HSEMS and maintaining high level of safety standards.
- Promotes / motivates a positive approach by the Contractor for site safety, ensuring that they are utilizing the correct equipment, and complying to Waste Management Procedure.
- Ensure that surfaces are prepared to specification prior to the application of different coats of paint.
- Ensure that coatings are applied in the correct order, to the required thickness as per each Coating system of the specification.
- Liaise with Maintenance and Production Supervisors to plan and execute painting activities. Draft, plan work orders and prepare for planned Major shutdown activities in maintenance management system
- (MAXIMO) and in close liaison with line managers to determine priorities to prepare a detailed work schedule and minimize downtime and cost.
- Supervise and plan day rate maintenance painting works including comparison with the Unit rate.
- Joint inspection, analyzing RIE reports and execution of the same taking into consideration the priorities.
- Ensuring all coating including Passive Fire Proofing and insulation work (new and refurbishment) are applied in conformance with specification and QC for each stage of coating / fire proofing / insulation works.
- Liaise with ID (FIT Protective Coating Engineer) regarding any inspection findings / failure analysis and all coating related works in variance with specification for the course of actions.
- To ensure warranty is enforced on all painting works in liaison with OS – SST / ID Coating Engineer’s as per Contract terms & conditions.
- Participating in preparation / updating of 5 years painting plan along with site Planning team & OS -SST.
- Collect paint / garnet samples for random testing and finger printing as required by the specification or
- Purchase agreement.
- Maintain Coating Inspection records for all coating work performed.
- Maintaining Consumables (garnet, paints) inventory, follow up with suppliers and LG for prompt deliveries to site.
- Exercise control on the daily rate-painting contractor in terms of efficient manpower & equipment utilization.
- Develop the strategy and review the scope of work in coordination with OS – SST, participating in technical evaluation during ITT stage of various Lumpsum projects.
- Follow up on lump sum painting contractor(s) on Site to ensure that their work is as per ADNOC
- OFFSHORE Painting specification.
- Maintain a high level of HSE awareness and to continue with Risk assessments, toolbox talks, monthly safety meetings & HSE observations and to fully comply with all HSE requirements.
- Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
- Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job
- and deliver the respective section objectives.
Budgets
Provide input for preparation of the Department / Section budgets, assist in the implementation of the
approved Budget, and work plans to deliver Section objectives.
Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.

Implement approved Department / Section policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures in order to support execution of the Section’s work programs in line with Company and International standards.
Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.

Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational
processes.

with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability
guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC & Oceaneering Code of Practices.
Participate in Emergency Response duties as a team member.
Reports
Provide inputs to prepare Section MIS and progress reports for Company Management.
Maintain a proper filling of certificates for all equipment and QC equipment & personnel.
Maintain a proper filling of all QC reports for Internal & External painting of Vessels, piping &
structures.
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal
Maintenance Line Team Leader & Manager.
UZAI’s Production, Maintenance, Logistics & HSE Supervisors.
HQ support unit departments including OSES, OS SST, Finance, Logistics, Commercial, Operations
Support / Integrity, Engineering and projects, HR and MD, etc.
External
Regular contact with Service Contractor and Paint manufacturers.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualification
B.E / Mechanical / Civil Engineering (or equivalent with relevant experience).
Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills
- 10 years’ experience in painting and coating work in oil, gas and petrochemical industries of which
- at least 5 years are in offshore installations
- Good knowledge of the relevant International Standards as regards to Surface Preparation and
- Coating, insulation and fireproofing application, Selection and Testing.
Professional Certifications
NACE certified Coating Inspector (at least Level 2) or equivalent.
Additional certifications from authorized international bodies.

This position is considered OFFSHORE which is characterized as follows.
- Outdoors majority of the time on work site, day or night. Some indoor office for reporting.
- Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
- Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
- Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks on adjacent work
- Exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases at work site
- Work surface is stable, height is elevated. Use of ladders and scaffold for some access.
