Commercial Manager

Your new role, what’s involved?

Operational Excellence and Expertise:

  • Support the T&I Business Unit to mitigate commercial risks across all aspects of the BU’s activities.
  • Actively involved in preparing strategies to manage risks and opportunities; executing on those strategies including appropriate correspondence, notices, record keeping, and participate in key commercial meetings and follow up.
  • Manage commercial risk and returns and ensure commercial standards, procedures and processes are applied across all commercial activities.
  • Participate in regular project reviews as per the WSP ME criteria, helping to identify opportunities and risks to WSP’s financial performance and ensuring allocated actions are progressed.
  • Ensure the online O&R register is accurate with values and status remarks always current.

People & Culture:

  • Monitor and advise Project Leaders, other team members of potential or actual risks arising from Main Contract, Subcontracts and/ or from performance of the Works.
  • Work with the Legal team in negotiating any final settlements on contract terms with our clients and sub-consultants
  • Assist our Project Leaders in all matters relating to the commercial and contractual aspects of the projects and in negotiating any final settlements on contract terms with our clients. I analyze the financial accounts and monthly reporting to assess working capital risks and revenue recognition providing good judgement and advice as required.
  • Actively work with the working capital team to ensure disputed or delayed invoices are settled and payments are made at the earliest time.
  • Provide support to our Prospect Leaders with responses to post tender clarifications.
  • Provide support to Finance team to update status comments for regular Global Reporting.

Clients & Projects:

  • Support our projects on key change/claim submissions including variations, extension of time, prolongation etc. and reach agreements with our clients.
  • Assist and support our project leaders in the delivery of our projects on time, within budget and to the required quality standards including contractual, commercial, risk/ opportunity and change management.
  • Provide support to our Prospect Leaders with contract negotiations and ensuring favorable terms and conditions.
  • Prepare relevant commercial correspondence to clients.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, or Quantity Surveying or relevant professional certifications (e.g. MRICS, MICE) is preferred but not essential.
  • Chartered (or working towards) from an accredited institution.
  • Proven experience (4 to 8 years) in a similar commercial role within the construction or transport & infrastructure design consultancy sector, demonstrating a strong understanding of commercial principles and practices.
  • Sound knowledge of contracts, procurement processes, and financial regulations applicable to the construction and design industry.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at various organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting tools to effectively manage financial data and produce accurate reports.
  • Possesses strong work ethic, resilience, a proactive attitude, takes initiative and demonstrates a commitment to excellence.
