The Design Manager for Marine and Infrastructure Projects, with expertise in environmental management, will assume a critical role in overseeing the design aspects of major developments within Abu Dhabi ports while ensuring strict adherence to environmental regulations and sustainability principles.

This position requires a comprehensive understanding of marine engineering, port infrastructure, project management, and environmental best practices.

The Design Manager will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into the design process and drive sustainable outcomes.


Your new role, what’s involved?

  • Manage environmental consultancy contracts for local and international projects,
    including the review of deliverables from consultants
  • Preparation of tender documents for consultancy services to carry out
    Environmental and Social Impact Assessments in accordance to IFC performance
    standards and local requirements.
  • Carry out pre-qualification and technical evaluation of consultancies based on their relevant experience.
  • May participate in discussions with vendors
  • Provide support during the tender process to appoint a Contractor by making sure the construction environmental scope is covered in the contract as per the
    approved studies and authority requirements
  • Report to internal and external auditors on compliance with the approved
    environmental permitting procedure and close out of any non-conformances
    raised.
  • Manage the environmental and social workstream throughout the IFC due diligence process
  • Review of technical and commercial proposals from contractors and consultants
    and support in negotiation.
  • Carry out site inspections (when needed)
  • Supporting the development of business cases by preparing environmental risks
    and opportunities matrices for different projects.
  • Support wider functions across the Group on environmental initiatives


We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification in environmental management is preferred.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in design management, with a focus on marine and infrastructure projects, coupled with demonstrable experience in managing environmental programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine engineering principles, port infrastructure systems, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and inspire cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering environmentally sustainable projects while meeting project objectives, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Familiarity with local and international environmental regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to marine and infrastructure projects in the UAE, particularly in Abu Dhabi.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing competing priorities and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
