Job Purpose

Supervise drilling-related operations at project locations to test and obtain samples in line with the company’s requirements. Collaborate closely with the Operations Superintendent and adhere to the responsibilities provided by him. Work with the drilling team and specialists from other Fugro entities or third-party subcontractors to ensure safe and effective sampling and testing programs. Coordinate with the Site Manager and vessel Master to ensure all operations are carried out safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Supervise the activities of the drilling crew at the work location.

  • Ensure all operations comply with the company’s quality procedures and HSE policies.

  • Maintain economic drilling production rates and high sample quality by selecting appropriate tooling and drilling techniques.

  • Liaise with site engineering staff to ensure drilling, sampling, and testing activities meet specifications.

  • Advise site engineering staff on the limitations of drilling, sampling, and testing equipment to minimize damage and loss.

  • Inform site engineering staff of any problematic soil conditions that may require a review of the sampling and testing regime.

  • Check that all drilling equipment at the worksite is in good working order and report any faults to the Operations Superintendent promptly.

  • Ensure sufficient plant spares are available at the worksite.

  • Verify that correctly specified drilling, sampling, and testing tools are available at the worksite.

  • Ensure drilling operations consumables are available in sufficient quantities at the worksite.

  • Report any deficits in materials to the Operations Superintendent promptly.

Specific Additional Duties

  • Actively participate in adherence to and improvement of the Company Management System on Quality and HSE-related issues.

  • During equipment mobilization and demobilization:

    • Organize the workforce for effective 24-hour operations.

    • Request specialist services, third-party plant hire, and labor from the Operations Coordinator or Plant Manager as appropriate.

    • Plan the lifting schedule and ensure all lifting operations are carried out safely and controlled.

    • Supervise all cutting and welding activities and ensure correct mitigation measures are in place.

  • Produce monthly and end-of-project reports on:

    • Drilling fluid and chemical usage.

    • Spares usage.

    • Consumables usage.

    • Equipment status, maintenance, and fault reporting.

  • On project completion, produce a debriefing report including:

    • Brief summary of project performance.

    • Lessons learned.

    • Individual drill crew evaluations according to IMS form 930.11 Field Staff Appraisal.

    • Evaluation of subcontractor/subcontracted Opco technical performance.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in drilling techniques and equipment.

    • Knowledge of HSE policies and quality procedures.

    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership and team management skills.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

    • Attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in drilling operations and HSE practices are preferred.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in challenging environments and perform physically demanding tasks.
