Job Purpose
The Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (RIHSS) is seeking to recruit a Postdoc to work on interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence and the social sciences. The selected researcher will contribute to promoting the integration of AI into research in the fields of humanities and social sciences and explore how AI can be applied to address social challenges. This position involves conducting original research, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and publishing findings in leading academic journals.
Main accountabilities & expectations
Conduct innovative research in the application of AI to social sciences, focusing on areas such as predictive analytics, social behavior modeling, ethical AI, and human-AI interaction.
Collaborate with faculty members in the fields of AI and its applications in humanities and social sciences, and related disciplines.
Design and implement AI-driven experiments and data analysis methodologies to address research questions in humanities and social sciences.
Publish research outcomes in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present findings at international conferences.
Contribute to the preparation of grant applications to secure external funding.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students as needed and assist in the organization of workshops and seminars.
Required Skills
Strong communication skills in both Arabic and English (speaking and writing).
Skilled in programming with Python and C++.
Deep understanding of AI, machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and large language models, especially in humanities and social sciences.
Familiar with the full software development process.
Knowledge of Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) tools.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Team player with adaptability.
Desirable Requirements
Ph.D. in a relevant field such as AI and / or computer science, with experience in AI application in humanities and social sciences
Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, data science, natural language processing, or AI methods applied to social science data.
Strong programming skills (Python, R, or equivalent) and experience with AI tools and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Experience in conducting interdisciplinary research and handling large datasets.
A strong record of publications in reputable journals in the relevant fields.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Commitment to ethical considerations in AI and its societal impacts.
Proven experience in managing research projects and securing external funding.
Familiarity with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR) and ethical standards relevant to humanities and social science research.
Practical experience in addressing algorithmic bias, transparency, and fairness in AI systems.
